July 17, 2025
President Dr. Candace M. Lewis has announced that Dr. Danielle Buhuro has joined the Gammon faculty as Assistant Professor of Pastoral and Spiritual Care. She began teaching in Fall 2024.
Buhuro is a nationally recognized chaplain educator and Womanist pastoral theologian whose work centers on spiritual care, social justice, and the urgent needs of Black women in digital and clinical spaces. She most recently served as Executive Director of Sankofa CPE, one of the nation's leading African American Clinical Pastoral Education programs.
Her current research explores the intersection of social media violence and spiritual care, examining how African-centered psychology and Womanist theology can offer transformative support to Black women facing online harm.
A deeply passionate educator and activist, Dr. Buhuro is committed to co-creating classroom experiences with students that are rooted in justice, community, and relevance.
She earned her Master of Divinity from McCormick Theological Seminary and is an ACPE-certified spiritual director and educator. She is also an ordained minister in the Progressive Baptist tradition.
In her own words:
"My call to chaplaincy has always been more than a profession—it is a commitment to justice, inclusion, and activism in the field of pastoral and spiritual care."
