DR. CANDACE M. LEWIS

Professor in Wesleyan Studies

President & Chief Executive Officer

Visionary leader, church planter, and Wesleyan scholar, Dr. Candace M. Lewis brings decades of innovation, spiritual depth, and strategic insight to theological education. Her work is rooted in building thriving ministries, equipping transformational leaders, and reimagining the church's role in today’s world. As a trailblazer in the United Methodist Church, she teaches at the intersection of tradition and bold, Spirit-led change.

DR. DANIELLE J. BUHURO

Assistant Professor of Pastoral Theology

Dr. Buhuro is a clinical pastoral education supervisor and ACPE certified educator whose work bridges the spiritual, psychological, and prophetic. A widely respected leader in pastoral care and chaplaincy education, she brings academic depth and therapeutic insight to the classroom—her research and ministry center Black healing, mental wellness, and justice-informed pastoral practices.

DR. BEVERLY GOINES

Academic Support Specialist

Dr. Beverly Goines serves as Gammon’s Academic Support Specialist, bringing years of classroom and mentoring experience to her role. A graduate of Howard Divinity School and The Catholic University of America, she also earned a B.S. in Technical Writing from Carnegie Mellon University.  She works with students on course planning, research, writing, and online learning skills, offering guidance tailored to their needs. Committed to student success, Dr. Goines helps seminarians persist, excel, and thrive while balancing the demands of work, family, and study.

DR. MONICA ISABEL REY

Assistant Professor of Biblical Studies

Dr. Rey is a dynamic voice in biblical scholarship whose work reflects deep commitments to cultural identity, migration, and contextual readings of scripture. With experience teaching and researching in Latin America and the U.S., she equips students to engage the biblical text with critical insight and spiritual imagination.

REV. DR. C. ANTHONY HUNT 

Professor of Practice, Black Church & Wesleyan Studies

Dr. Hunt, an ordained elder in the UMC, teaches systematic, moral, and practical theology. He is the author of nine books and a distinguished lecturer on race, theology, and social transformation.

DR. CANDACE M. LAUGHINGHOUSE

Assistant Professor of Theology & Ethics

Scholar, activist, theologian, and musician Dr. Laughinghouse brings a prophetic and interdisciplinary lens to theological education, engaging theology, race, environment, and worship. Her current work deconstructs Christian Nationalism in Black Gospel music and examines memory, liturgy, and liberation. As a mentor, advisor, and minister, she embodies a deeply womanist ethic of care and critical engagement.

DR. STEPHEN WARD

 Lecturer in Biblical Studies and Academic Support.

Dr. Stephen W. Ward brings fresh energy and deep expertise in the Hebrew Bible, Africana biblical interpretation, and the intersection of the Bible with Black music, film, and culture. Trained at UCLA with a Ph.D. in Near Eastern Languages and Cultures, he specializes in how ancient texts come alive in African and African American contexts. Students find his teaching both rigorous and relevant, bridging history with today’s questions of faith and justice. As a tutor, he is committed to equipping students with the skills to thrive in seminary, whether in study, writing, or balancing school with life’s demands.
