DR. MÓNICA REY JOINS GAMMON FACULTY

August 14, 2025

President Dr. Candace M. Lewis has announced that Dr. Mónica Rey has joined the Gammon faculty as Assistant Professor of Hebrew Bible. She began teaching in Fall 2024.

Dr. Rey is a scholar of the Old Testament with a deep commitment to liberation theology, cultural interpretation, and classroom formation. Raised in a Peruvian household and educated in Catholic schools, she developed a deep affinity for the Old Testament early on, seeing its cultural distinctiveness as a reflection of her own dual identity.

Her academic work centers on how the Bible has been used throughout history, both as a tool of liberation and as a source of harm. She invites students to engage Scripture through this lens, helping them become critical thinkers and liberators in their own right.

At Gammon, Dr. Rey looks forward to learning from colleagues steeped in Black liberation and womanist theological traditions, while adding her own Latina theological flair to the academic conversation.

She holds degrees in theology and biblical studies, and brings experience as a former pastor's spouse—someone who knows firsthand the power and demands of ministry life.

In her own words:
"What a blessing and an honor to be able to shape sharp minds to do God's work."
